Get Control Over Diseases

Diseases are a pain in the neck. They ruin your yields, waste your time and cost you money in biopesticides. And worst of all, even when they are nowhere to be seen, it’s stressful to know they might show up anytime.
Powdery mildew, leaf mold and almost all diseases are caused by humidity levels that stay above 80% for too long.
Secondly, we observed that most market gardeners give too much water at a time. I know, I know. It’s easier that way. Unfortunately, it causes sclerotinia rots as well as mineral deficiencies that lead to blossom-end rot and other quality problems.
To keep their tunnels disease free all season, successful growers ventilate to change the air up to 40 times per day and fraction their irrigation up to 10 times/day.
All this business is quite complicated but hey ! Do you really need to do it yourself ?

The Recommended Responsibilities to Delegate

Remember ! Better start with the low-hanging fruit and delegate other responsibilities later.

Side Ventilation

First system to get humid air out of the tunnel.

Result Oriented
Budget Friendly
Time Friendly

Never cook your plants again

Your roll-up sides open automatically following the temperature. No more risk of sneaky sunshine overheating the tunnel while you pick up your kid at school.

Increase sellable quality fruits

Gradually opening the sides prevents drastic temperature changes. They cause splitting and condensation that ruin shelf life.

Faster crop growth

Every time cold air hits tomatoes, they get stressed out and stop their growth for a few hours. Compounded during the whole season, these stops mean a big difference in revenue.

Free up time to save your harvests from weeds

No more back and forth when the weather changes.

This is for you if :

You let your roll-up sides open the whole summer.
You have no time for more precise temperature control.

You need :

  • Power outlet
  • 3x3 board to screw on units
  • Roll-up (the crank is not necessary, the pipe is)

We provide :

  • 2 roll-up motors
  • Control unit that activates the motors
  • Necessary hardware, screws and wires
  • Hands free temperature control
  • Remote control from your phone

Disease Prevention

Control the available equipment to control humidity and prevent disease.

Time Friendly
Budget Friendly

Stop losing money to diseases

Powdery mildew is a profit killer. When it hits in July that can mean $5,000 less in your bank account at the end of the season. Same crap with other diseases.

Reduce fungicide use

Fungicides are expensive. They take hours to apply and nobody enjoy spraying them. Worse, you need to reapply every 4 days. Often with little success. A better way is to go proactive. Don’t give them the conditions to grow in the first place. Keep the humidity low.

Season extension

You invest in a greenhouse to extend the growing season. But, it's worthless if your tomatoes stop producing in September due to downy mildew. Allow them 2 more months of harvest with only 2 clicks.

This is for you if :

  • You grow lettuce or trellis crops
  • You experience disease pressure
  • You want to maximize your greenhouse income

You need :

  • Ventilation delegated to Orisha
  • Heating delegated to Orisha (optional but recommended)

We provide :

  • Hands free humidity control

Irrigation

Eliminate blossom-end rot and keep soil-borne diseases in check.

Result Oriented

Eliminate blossom-end rot for good

Giving too much water at a time causes blossom-end rot. The solution is to divide the amount of water into many doses per day.

Get more veggies out of your greenhouse

While most folks see irrigation as a survival need, it’s more than that. It’s directly related to how much you can get out of your greenhouse. Not enough water and your plants can’t transpire. Too much and you’ll get sclerotinia rot as well as root issues. Adapting the irrigation to the sunlight is often a limiting factor for growers.

Get the tastiest fruit at your market

You want tasty fruits, you need potassium. Over-irrigation makes your tomatoes blend because it flushes away nutrients. On the other hand, too little water and cucumbers don’t get that juicy taste.

This is for you if :

  • You irrigate only once a day. You don’t have the mental space for more
  • You give your plants the same amount of water no matter how sunny it is
  • Irrigation prevents you from taking days off

You need :

  • An irrigation system (pump, drip tape, etc.) besides the valves

We provide :

  • As many electrical valves as you need
  • The control unit to open/shut the valves
  • No limit to the number of irrigation you can set
  • Remote control from your phone

Heating

Warming up cold air decreases humidity levels temporarily to stop the disease development cycle.

Crank your yields to 2500 lbs per bed

First rule to maximizing yields is to keep your plant balanced. Otherwise they will exhaust and give you tiny harvests at the end of the season. To avoid that, you need to adjust the temperature based on the day's sunlight. Your busy day probably doesn't allow you to do it but Orisha makes the gymnastics for you.

Get quality crops all season long

Orisha will ensure smooth transitions of temperature. With this, you'll prevent the damage caused by condensation and fruit splitting. Moreover, you’ll get better dehumidifying power to keep disease away from your crops !

Stop wasting costly propane

Your tomatoes don’t need the same warmth all the time. The more light your plant receives, the warmer it needs to be. In other words, when it’s cloudy, or at night, you should keep it 10°F colder. Doing that means economies of about $25/day in propane.

This is for you if :

  • You keep the same setpoint day and night
  • You get disease issues before August
  • You get your cucumbers to market only in June

You need :

  • One or many heaters
  • Can be a multi-stage system

We provide :

  • Control unit to turn heater on/off
  • Backup thermostat
  • Seamless integration of your heater for temperature control
  • Automatic temperature adjustment according to the day’s light
  • Seamless integration of your heating in Disease Prevention

Advanced Ventilation

Fans and peak vents get more humidity out. Helpful to prevent cold air directly hitting the plant during the shoulder season.

Result Oriented

Stop losing yields to flower abortion

Every aborted cluster is at least 6$ down the drain. That means 600$/bed. One of the main causes of abortion is overheating. Make all your venting power contribute to keeping that money in your pocket.

Harvest 2 weeks earlier

Using roll-up sides during spring allows cold air to directly hit your baby crops. The resulting thermal shocks can delay your first harvest for 2 weeks. Using peak vents, exhaust fans and louvers gets the cold air to mix with the warmer indoor air before reaching your plants. The sides will still join in to prevent overheating when needed.

Stop wasting costly propane

Have you ever come back to your greenhouse while the exhaust fan and the heaters were running ? That’s just waste. It costs you money and it emits more CO2 emissions. Let Orisha preemptively shut the vents to keep the warmth. Sometimes, it would even prevent the heater from kicking in.

This is for you if :

  • You’d gain to arrive earlier at market
  • You have disease problems and want the added airflow to help dehumidify
  • Your roll-up sides aren't enough to prevent the temperature to go through the roof and you don't want to lose blossoms again

You need :

  • Fans, louvers or peak vent motors

We provide :

  • Control units
  • Seamless integration in Orisha’s temperature and humidity control
  • Remote control from your phone

Rain Protection

Wet leaves = powdery mildew

Result Oriented

Stop worrying about impending storms

Rain is a very localized phenomenon. When you are in town, you might not notice the storm hitting your farm.

Prevent diseases by keeping your leaves dry

Sclerotinia, botrytis, powdery mildew. They all thrive on wet leaves. The longer it’s wet, the more risks. That's why it’s even more dramatic when it rains at night.

One more thing you won’t forget

We always feel bad when we forget something important. The reality is that you just have too much to remember it all. Sometimes, it doesn’t matter much. Other times, it means downy mildew.

This is for you if :

  • You live off the farm
  • Your tunnels get flooded when it rains
  • Your tunnel seems to grow mold
  • You got improper drainage

You need :

  • A place to install the wind sensor above obstacles (like a pole above your greenhouse)
  • Motorized roll-ups/vents

We provide :

  • Rain sensor
  • Data collection unit
  • Automated closing of roll-ups and vents when it’s raining

Farmer's Experience

Here’s FQT Farm tomatoes in July a few years back. Yes. That’s what a 5 000$ loss looks like. Others call it leaf mold :

Tomato plants diseased - La Ferme des Quatre-Temps

That’s an expensive issue but Catherine and her team completely eliminated the problem. They can now consistently harvest $125 000 while being proud of their crops. The difference ? Humidity control.
